Since shortly before Xmas this year, I?ve been wondering what Bush would come out with to fix things and I don?t know why I really expected anything different like conscience, responsibility, ethics from that man. He teams up with Cheney and they seem to be the body politick. One guards the other?s backside and the other lies, cheats, and steals for the former. There really is nothing different in the latest rhetoric and I think that Bush is completely within his rights as C-in-C to send troops. But he does not control the budget and appropriations for the troops and I think if the Republicans and Democrats that have come to their senses challenge the deployment, it not be along the initial choice lines. Instead, it will become a money issue. Pelosi must not succumb to the battle bots of rhetoric with the President. Instead, she must rise above and make a difference. People must see their choices for a change mid-term must make sense. The Democrats cannot take a stand which is ill-defined or not at all. So, instead, on this important day for all of our civil rights, let us all blog that choice is not dead. Many of us will not join freedom trains or exercise their rights to civil disobediance that Martin Luther King, Jr fought so hard for us obtain. But just because we don?t outwardly does not mean we don?t have feelings. I?ve questioned the value of blogging a few times and asked what it would get us. The huge majority of bloggers are not the top of the Pyramid or the head of the comet. Instead, we are sloggers and writers and definers and we write because we can. I?d urge us to write a blogpost which states our feelings and let it stand on its own. I have a feeling that literally millions of bloggers don?t show up on technorati or pubsub or google?s blogsearch; but they?re important nonetheless. They speak a universal language and express fundamental feelings. If you agree that the time has to come to say enough is enough great and if you don?t agree that?s great too! By all of us speaking in our own voices, we deny the rights of others to voice for us. Enough said on the political issues.
Defunct Idealism
We all know when it comes time to say when. I remember reading the old AA step thing and one of the things was the addage of not wanting to feel sick and tired of being sick and tired. We all march forward on our own idealism and we want to leave things behind and adopt new things. I?ve blogged the feeling more than a few times and the only chalkboard I have for expression is the one that I carry. The letters and phrases, sentences and paragraphs show up here with amazing regularity. Truth be told, I?m getting excited about the quality of the jobs and paths I am beginning to see around here. I?ve found an amazing quality and difference of new jobs to apply for and get interviews from. Its exciting and fun and challenging at the least. If you are looking for a new place, consider looking at how far you?ve gone with the old one and leverage some of your learning. A person at the EDD told me that same thing recently. I expressed this desire to kind of leave behind some of the stuff and find a new things and the lady there told me she hears that daily. People need change! Doh!!
Anthropology to Technology
So how does that change happen? For me it came to a few reasons:
- No jobs in archeology. Unfortunately, the ability to find work was getting harder and the pay was never that good.
- No jobs close to the place I lived. This is a reality in contract archeology. I traveled all over the darned place from the Sierras to the Deserts; Nevada to Arizona. I had a family for heaven?s sake and I could not be there for them at important times. Instead, I was in Wyoming or Needles, California.
- Change is good. I was ripe for change but I knew not that technology would be the place I?d go. Archeology is a demanding mistress and it sets the tone and tenor of your life and you usually must live to its whim. On the other hand, it taught me a lot and I knew when the time came, I was well-prepared for change. Heck, I?d studied change for thousands of years.
Technological Slipstreams
Technology then became my mistress and I had to travel a bit for it. I?ve now traveled full circle in it and found myself wanting different after almost 10 years of doing open source. I see myself wanting a different path now and the jobs I am seeing would allow me that. I?m excited and glad to be able to profit at a vew levels from the recent searches. Main thing? Lets see how we all do with the very next thing!
