Friday and my Test Blog

I’ve been playing a lot with a test WordPress install as far as making the classic theme do a few extra things. I really like both weblogs at this point and they both do things for my desire to poke a bit at the plumbing. I spent a bit of time here with the affiliated static pages, the contact page, etc and this is really my weblogging home moving forward; but the play weblog is stacking up nicely too. Whether I continue to use the both of them or migrate the changed classic theme to this place I am gonna consider.

Other news which is interesting… I spent a bit of time considering project management goals and how to create a new project management schema for smaller workgroups, small business consulting, and sets of goals for partners/colleagues that work closely on affiliated projects. This is an incredibly interesting thing to me and its a thing I have dwelled on before. There are challenges to many of the classic precepts of project management. I’ve always felt and was told by a senior IBM Manager that was PMP certified that project management really included two precepts:

  • manage the process
  • manage the people

If you cannot do one of these things correctly you will fail miserably at both. But the goals of project management change. What was okay at some big professional services delivery thing will fail when the manager is faced with new realities. One has to make profound changes to how management occurs I think. New approaches require newer definitions and I’ve been doing that for awhile now with small business linux consulting with my partner, building new business approaches around cosmic interactions of hardware and software, and consideirng how to build innovative approaches when partners and colleagues all intersect the requirements at different places.

The real PM cannot be a scheduling manager or a PM in name only. I saw this once and I knew it was doomed. In my alternate universe, and the one I am living in, the approaches I am working on seem to yield appreciable benefit.

I’m gonna carefully balance my two weblogs and one will prevail in the end. I like the essence of the Play Blog and perhaps it becomes a place that I end up blogging more and this is a different resource. So far, I like the hosted WordPress approach and its flexibility. Time will tell.
